HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Angeleek Williams of Decatur did things differently for her birthday this year. The 42-year- old had a blood donor birthday bash at her workplace in downtown Decatur Wednesday.
Instead of gifts, Williams asked people if they would donate blood with Life South. She put the request on Facebook and had a huge response. Williams got the idea from someone else several years ago and decided to organize a drive herself.
"I have a lot of friends who wanted to wish me well on my birthday, and I wanted to get all of the community involved," said Williams.
Williams started giving blood five years ago to commemorate being cancer free. She donates once every other month. Williams also talked Edna Ryan into giving blood several years ago. Ryan said the process is not as bad as some think.
"I felt really well and I filled the bag up really fast," said Ryan.
Ryan hopes the blood donated will help save people like her brother and her daughter. Both have conditions that require a lot of blood transfusions.
Life South representatives said one pint can help at least three people.
