HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
One person is dead and another was seriously injured after a two-car crash on I65 Thursday night.
Several emergency crews rushed to the south bound lane near the Browns Ferry exit just before midnight. Investigators believe a Nissan Truck traveling north bound lost control and landed in oncoming traffic, striking a Honda.
They believe 71-year-old Julian Tyler went over the median and rolled into oncoming traffic but they have not confirmed anything.
Investigators believe Tyler was traveling with his wife, 68-year-old Juanita Tyler. She had to be medflighted to Huntsville Hospital where she is in fair condition. Julian Tyler died at the scene.
Traffic was at a standstill for hours. Several agencies from Athens, Limestone County, Tanner and State Troopers had to close down both lanes for at least 45 minutes just for the medical chopper to land.
25-year-old Nathan Chance, the driver of the Honda, did not sustain injuries.
State Troopers are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
