HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

At a meeting Thursday night, the Huntsville City Council voted 5-0 in favor of reinstating the second Huntsville police officer fired over incidents in 2011.

Brett Russell was fired from the Huntsville Police Department in May for incidents that occurred last year, where police say the two officers violated department policy. During the same motion, the city council agreed to a 30-day suspension without pay for Russell from the Huntsville Police Department.

During the same council meeting Thursday night, the city council voted 3-2 to give a 30-day suspension without pay to recently-reinstated Officer Phillip Lee.

Lee was also fired from the Huntsville Police Department in May when authorities claimed he used excessive force during two separate incidents in 2011. They claimed he hit a handcuffed suspect with a closed fist during an arrest, and then threw another woman out of her car onto the ground during a traffic stop.

The Huntsville City Council voted 3-2 in July to give Officer Phillip Lee his job back.
