HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
A GLBT group in Huntsville has filed a report with the U.S. Department of Education office of Civil Rights over the April 2012 incident involving a Grissom JROTC student and her instructor.
According to the student, she told some people she wanted to move to San Francisco in the future. She said the instructor then began preaching from the Bible about homosexuality. Several students left the room crying, but the instructor didn't stop preaching when he was asked to.
GLBT Advocacy and Youth Services sent several letters to Huntsville City Schools, but they did not receive a response. The GLBT group is asking for a Title IX Sexual Harassment investigation into the incident.
The GLBT group has hired and is now working with a civil rights attorney out of the Birmingham area, Virginia Applebaum. Nothing has been filed with courts.
