The city of Auburn says a scheduled closure of lanes is set for the intersection at Toomer's Corner Wednesday.
A contractor hired by Auburn University will complete tree maintenance on the famous Toomer's Oaks at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and College Street. The work will take place from 7:00am until 3:00pm, August 8th.
The maintenance is part of the University's attempts to save the trees following the discovery that they'd been poisoned with a fatal level of Spike 80, a herbicide designed to shut down a plant's ability to feed itself. The trees show continued signs of deterioration.
Suspect Harvey Updyke is accused of poisoning the trees shortly after the 2010 Iron Bowl, admitting to the act in a phone call to a sports radio call-in show.
A judge has issued a gag order in the case and that order extends to the University and discussion of the trees.
The Toomer's Oak trees mark the entrance to Auburn University and are symbols of the University. Students and alumni roll the trees with toilet paper following game wins, which Auburn says will continue to happen even as the trees' health remain in question.
