MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
You've heard of the phrase, "buyers beware?" Well, how about "sellers beware."
Madison County resident Charla Telesco sold a couple of items on Craigslist.
She received payment for one in the form of a check from a university in Indiana that she said was clearly fake. She received payment for the other item in the form of money orders. In both cases, the amount was worth more than what she had asked for; a definite red flag that she didn't fall for. She said the money orders were also counterfeit.
"If you take the counterfeit to the bank, you're the one passing counterfeit; not the people who sent it, so you could get in trouble for passing counterfeit," said Telesco.
Telesco said she went to the police with the fake money orders and police confirmed they were counterfeit. She said she also called Indiana Police and they're investigating the bogus check from a university there.
