ARAB, AL (WAFF) -

An 18-year-old with a form of autism fought off an intruder at a home in Arab.

Brandon Peterson said he woke up to Landon Long, 33, armed with a gun inside his family's home on 6th Street early Sunday morning.

"I was scared. I thought I was going to die that day because he had a gun. I made peace with God and I was ready to go meet him," said Peterson.

Residents hailed Peterson as a hero. Arab Police said Long came into the home looking to take his estranged wife with him.

"He actually pulled a hand gun from his pants, threatened several people in the residence," said Sgt. Dan Henry, Arab Police Department.

Officers said when Long saw his estranged wife go to a back bedroom, he chased after her.

Officers said Landon grabbed her by her hair and pulled her outside the back door of the home. When Long got to the back yard, that's when he saw Peterson.

Peterson said he grabbed a gun he knew that did not work hoping to scare him.

"I pointed it at him. He just goes ballistic. He wrestles it out of my hand, picks me up, and right as he picks me up I pull my knife out and I get him," said Peterson.

He said Long hit him a couple times before running off. He was captured by police at the end of the driveway.

Long was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then taken to the Arab City Jail.
