DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
The northbound lanes of the Interstate 65 Tennessee River Bridge reopened Monday, but the deck maintenance project continues on the southbound, inside lane.
The Alabama Department of Transportation said they expect the $6.8 million project to apply overlay to seal the bridge deck to wrap up in the near future, weather permitting.
Both northbound lanes across the bridge have reopened. Southbound traffic is still shifted to the outside lane while work is completed on the inside lane.
Southbound traffic will still be impacted by the work, with only one lane open daily. Motorists who regularly travel across the bridge are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays. Wide loads must use alternate routes, including Highway 31 and Huntsville, Browns Ferry Road.
State Troopers are strictly enforcing the 50 mph speed limit in the work zone.
