Investigators are questioning several people about an overnight shooting that left one person dead and another injured early Monday morning.

Police said one person was shot and killed around 2 a.m. near the intersection of 6th Avenue Southwest and 4th Street Southwest, just south of Governor's Drive.

Witnesses told police, a group of men got into a fight over a woman at a nearby nightclub. Witnesses said the gunman chased down the victims in his car and tried to run them off the road. Then the gunman fired several shots into the victim's SUV.

A car full of people saw the entire incident and said the shooter was driving a blue Chevrolet Avalanche.

A passenger in the victim's SUV was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Police blocked the eastbound lanes of Governor's Drive for several hours while conducting their investigation Monday morning. The coroner removed the body from the car around 6 a.m.

Richard Fowler lives less than a block from the murder scene. He said he didn't hear or see anything overnight - but when his family told him what happened it didn't surprise him at all. Fowler said he has lived in the Huntsville neighborhood for decades.

"I remember as kids we used to keep the windows open, the doors open at night, cool air, nobody bothered you," he said. "You can hardly walk down the street day or night because if it's not one person getting shot, or someone getting robbed, or a house getting broken in."

Police have not released any names yet.
