SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -
A prayer service has been set up at the Sheffield Church at the center of a sex abuse investigation.
Church leaders said they fired Oliver Brazelle because of allegations of sexual abuse. Brazelle has not been arrested or charged yet.
Members said the prayer service is about healing.
"This doesn't go away and it won't for a while. I'm convinced that this will be stronger church when we get over this," said Church official, Billy Don Anderson.
Church members said Brazelle admitted to them he had an inappropriate relationship with a young member of the church sometime in the 90's.
Church officials said the invitation to the prayer service goes beyond the members: everyone is invited.
"The purpose of this meeting this prayer service is obvious this painful experience that we've had (...) upon our friends," said Anderson.
The prayer service started at 6 at the Sheffield First United Methodist Church.
