DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
Decatur Police found a young girl abducted from a Birmingham area daycare Thursday.
Officials said 46-year-old John Matthew Augustine of Decatur abducted 2-year-old India from a Homewood daycare Thursday evening.
The child's parents are awaiting a hearing in Morgan County Circuit court, according to police. Augustine is the father of the girl, but he was not supposed to have custody of her.
Decatur detectives spotted Augustine's vehicle in the mall parking lot around 7:15 p.m., but India was not with him. A few minutes later, the child's babysitter arrived with her in the car. The child and her mother were reunited in the parking lot and returned home.
The investigation into what happened at the daycare will be conducted by Homewood police. No criminal charges have been filed against Augustine.
