SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -
Leaders with the Sheffield First United Methodist Church sent a letter to its congregation saying Oliver Brazelle admitted to inappropriate relations.
In the letter, church officials said the allegations against the music minister were brought to their attention last week.
They said after alerting members in the district office and seeking legal assistance, church leaders confronted Brazelle about the allegations. According to the letter, Brazelle admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a younger member of the church in the 90's.
After further discussion amongst church leaders, they said that's when they decided to dismiss him as an employee of the church and turned the findings over to the police.
Brazelle has been a member of the church for more than 50 years.
He is accused of sexually abusing multiple young boys within the church.
