HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville City School officials also voted to put WIFI on 20 school buses so students can study and do their homework while traveling to and from school.
Laptops will be given to thousands of Huntsville City School students
when they return to the classroom in two weeks. They'll be allowed to
use them at school or at home.
Board members said the WIFI on the buses will be a pilot program for one semester and it will be reevaluated at the end of the semester.
School officials proposed the idea about a month ago after superintendent, Dr. Casey Wardynski, decided to change over to a digital curriculum. Earlier this year, board members voted to make the digital switch in the classroom and replace textbooks with laptops.
Many teachers have already received their laptops. They're pre-loading them early with information so students can start to work immediately when they receive them.
Huntsville City Schools will start classes in the fall as the nation's largest district operating with a digital curriculum. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.
