Better Business Bureau officials warn email scams circulating under their name are good fakes and look legitimate.
One email contains a link that will download a Trojan virus to your computer if you click on it. The virus could destroy your computer. These scammers are posing as BBB officials from Alaska, Oregon and Washington state.
In another "phishing" email, scammers promise you have won a $1,000 gift card from your local BBB. They state that you only have 48 hours to claim your prize and provide a link to click.
BBB officials said that, in reality, the scammers are really just trying to get you to enter your name, address and other personal information, or possibly to steal your identity.
Better Business Bureau officials said if you are unsure about an email you think is coming from them, call them directly to make sure before you click on anything. The North Alabama BBB can be reached by calling 256-533-1640 or 1-800-239-1642.
