HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville's old textbooks have been donated to the Downtown Rescue Mission.
The school system also gave the mission used furniture and kitchen equipment.
The equipment would normally be destroyed, but now it will help the homeless who use the mission's free services.
"We have torn down schools. We're renovating schools. We're building new schools, and as a result we have many items of excess property, including books, that have outlived their operational lifetimes here within our organization but are still useful," said Dr. Jeffrey Wilson, Director of Operations for Huntsville City Schools.
Officials said the partnership will also help cut down on storage and disposal costs for the school district.
