Mobile, AL. (July 30)—The 2012 football season is right around the corner and the Senior Bowl and PNC Bank are teaming up to hold an event that will serve as the preseason kickoff for the Mobile Youth Football Conference, it was announced today. The inaugural PNC Bank-Senior Bowl Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, August 4th at Medal of Honor Park in Mobile from 8:30am to 1:30pm. The event, which is free and open to the public, is a result of a newly formed partnership between the Senior Bowl and PNC Bank.
"We're excited about entering into this new partnership with PNC Bank," Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage said. "This is an event that allows us to use football as a vehicle to reach young people and their families in our community."
"The Senior Bowl is more than a football game for Mobile. It is an event that has been a part of our history since 1951 and it brings the whole community together," said Cedric Hatcher, PNC Financial Services' Gulf Coast President and Senior Bowl Committee member. "PNC is new to this area but most of our employees are not. We are excited about our partnership with the Senior Bowl and also the opportunity to invest in initiatives designed to help our local communities grow."
Those attending the first PNC Bank-Senior Bowl Family Fun Day will have the opportunity to take part in a free football camp coordinated by Savage in conjunction with the Mobile Youth Football Conference (MYFC) and their coaches. The camp will run from 10am-12pm and is open to all MYFC participants, which includes 160 teams from 16 area parks with kids ranging in age from four to thirteen.
"The Mobile Youth Football Conference is very excited about working alongside the Senior Bowl and PNC Bank on this venture," MYFC President Winfred Moorer said. "Our conference has enjoyed our relationship with the Senior Bowl for a very long time now. Hopefully we can strengthen that relationship and gain a new one in PNC Bank. I'm sure it will be a great day for the kids and a huge success for all involved."
In addition to the camp, participants will be able to take advantage of the PNC Bank "Grow Up Great" interactive area, which will include free giveaways such as coloring books, crayons, balloons and educational materials. Free food and drink will be provided by Food For Less and Coca-Cola, while Blue Rents is donating inflatables. Participants will also get to enjoy clowns, face painters, music and a petting zoo.
A similar event is being planned for November in Baldwin County. Details of that event will be announced at a later date. For more information on the inaugural PNC Bank-Senior Bowl Family Fun Day, please call the Senior Bowl office at (251) 438-2276.
