ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Albertville Police are getting the opportunity to replace an aging police fleet.
The police department purchased 12 new Dodge Charges on Thursday. The cars will replace a third of the police cars currently in service.
The price tag for the new cars was almost $300,000. Mayor Lindsey Lyons said the 10 cars purchased in 2010 are almost paid for, and they will just pick up the new payments.
The cars replaced each have about 150,000 miles on them.
"We want safe vehicles and you never know what can happen with something that's got that much mileage on it, so we want to get them off the road. That's the main thing," said Lyons.
Assistant Chief Jamie Smith said they hope to have them "road ready" in the next 30 days.
