FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
An investigation is underway involving a member of the Florence Police Department because of behavior at a murder scene.
Because the allegations have not been made public, Chief Ron Tyler is unable to comment on them specifically.
He said his department takes allegations regarding his officers and staff very seriously.
Because of the serious nature of the allegations, Tyler said they are conducting an internal investigation trying to figure out exactly what happened.
He said he holds his officers and employees to higher standards and disciplinary actions will be faced if necessary.
"Certainly we're not above the law. I think the history of the Florence Police Department demonstrates for many years any time a situation comes up, we will address it and we will deal with it and that's been our history and the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior and if that's been what we've done in the past, that's certainly what we're going to do now," said Tyler. "I want to assure the city, the citizens, the community, all these folks that when those circumstances do occur and they're brought to our attention, we will do what needs to be done."
According to department policy, Tyler said any time serious misconduct allegations are made against an employee, they are placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
