MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
Crime fighters are receiving a new set of tools to crack down on crime throughout the city.
Madison Police are taking in three new K-9's for their department as a result of two of their current dogs retiring from the force.
Huntsville Police officers are teaming up with Madison Police - for free - to help train the dogs to become accustomed to their handling officer on duty. Like previous dogs, a local company is donating the cost of two of these new dogs as a service to the police department.
Sergeant Beard, the officer overseeing the process and K-9 division, said Thursday, the addition of three new service dogs will tremendously help the department.
"The dog's sense of smell is the greatest tool that he has. A dog's sense of smell is 30-times greater than what a human can do. All the technology we have in the world - we've never been able to duplicate what a dog can do with his nose."
