DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
Several people were injured in a wreck on Interstate 65 at the Tennessee River Bridge Thursday afternoon.
Three medical helicopters were called to the scene to transport victims to the hospital. Five people were injured, three people were in critical condition. Some of the patients were ejected from vehicles.
The wreck happened at Exit 340, just before the Tennessee River Bridge, where construction work is taking place.
Traffic was backed up for several miles in the southbound lanes because of the wreck. The area was already congested because of the construction work.
