FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
A judge approved the request for a DNA sample to be taken from a cigarette found at a murder scene in Franklin County.
Jason Green, 35, is accused of shooting his live-in girlfriend, Shae Ledlow and trying to pass it off as a suicide.
According to the court order requested by the district attorney, they have asked forensics to test the cigarette butt found in the victim's right hand.
The district attorney wants to know if Ledlow's DNA was on the cigarette. Green was indicted on murder charges back in December.
If he is convicted, he could face anywhere from ten years to life in prison.
According the documents, the court hopes to have the DNA results back before trial in October.
