NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) -
A fire destroyed a home in New Market hours after a shooting incident occurred at the same location on Saturday.
Madison County Sheriff's investigators said the fire appears to be suspicious at this time.
Firefighters responded to the fire on Noles Drive near Arnold Road sometime after 9 p.m. on Saturday. Officials said there were no injuries.
Earlier that afternoon, an argument between neighbors escalated into a shooting incident near the same home.
Deputies at the scene said the victim was shot in the leg and sent to Huntsville Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Witnesses identified him as Rickey Carter of New Market.
24-year-old Erik Wallace was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and is now free on a $5,000 bond.
Wallace's fiance said she and her children lost all their belongings in the fire that burned down their home.
"I have a three-month-old and four-year-old. And I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone. I lost everything," said Ashley Devaney.
Sheriff's investigators said both parties involved have been feuding for years. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
