Truck hits and seriously injures man on train car

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A man was seriously injured after a truck hit the train car he was towing.

Officials said a 50-year-old man was towing a train car across tracks on Moores Mill Road at Jordan Road when a red pickup truck hit the train car around 10:30 a.m.

The man was thrown from the train car and landed on the pavement. HEMSI rushed the man to Huntsville Hospital.

A witness said that the train signals never went off.

The North Alabama Railroad Museum said the man was towing the car back to the museum.

One lane of Moores Mill Road was closed while crews worked the scene.

Huntsville Police and Madison County Sheriff's deputies are trying to piece together why a pickup truck collided with a rail car Wednesday morning.

Eyewitness Tracy Anderson said the crash looked like it was out of a Hollywood action movie.

"I look up and the yellow cab is crossing the tracks just out of nowhere. The next thing you know a man is flying through the air and landed on the ground," said Anderson.

Anderson was driving behind the red pickup truck that hit the rail car. She said drivers had no warning the rail car was even near the Moores Mill Road, Jordan Road intersection.

"My son said there are no caution lights. He just came out of nowhere," she said.

Other eyewitnesses said the truck had no time to slow down before impact.

The conductor is a member of the North Alabama Railroad Museum organization.

Authorities reopened all lanes early Wednesday afternoon.

No names have been released.
