MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Morgan County plans to build an annex near the jail to prevent overcrowding. The facility will have the capacity to hold 240 inmates.
Early estimates put the cost at around $3-million. Officials hope to have the jail annex operating by this time next year.
"We're trying to be ahead of the game and get us a place so we can allow the sheriff to have a place to move inmates out of the jail and into a more work release type atmosphere," said Morgan County Commissioner Ray Long.
The public meeting on the jail annex will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in the Morgan County Commission Chambers on the fifth floor of the courthouse.
