MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The case of a Marshall County woman charged with burning up her home for the insurance money is now before the jury.

Closing arguments were heard Monday afternoon.

A jury will now have to determine the fate of Ella Kennamer who has stood trial for a week now.

Kennamer and her son, Donald Jones, were charged in the burning of her Grant home in 2008.

Last week, a judge threw out the arson charge, citing prosecutors had not supported the case for arson.

Kennamer took the stand Monday morning under cross examination by prosecutors.

Prosecutors discussed numerous items that Kennamer had claimed to be burned up in the home but were later seized by arson investigators at a mobile home and two Hampton Cove storage units.

Kennamer said she had many items that looked similar to each other and some were either sold or burned up in the home.

Kennamer was also asked about the king size beds she claimed to have burned up in the home but insurance officials only found springs for a queen size bed. Kennamer told them things do shrink in fires.

Prosecutors pointed to Kennamer's monthly income of $2,000 and expenses close to that for a large mortgage payment, plus utilities and other expenses.

Kennamer also testified she had about $26 dollars in her checking account at the time of the fire and even went gambling a couple days after the fire.

Under questioning from her attorney, Kennamer also testified the home was not for sale and that she had paid her mortgage payments on time.
