Half of Fyffe police force allegedly in danger of firing

FYFFE, AL (WAFF) -

The mayor of the DeKalb County town of Fyffe allegedly plans to fire half of the town's police force.

That comes just days after half the force filed suit claiming the mayor had a personal vendetta against them.

Mayor Katy Woodall sent Anthony Majusiak and Brian Warren letters of intent to fire Friday afternoon.

The mayor would not say why she is seeking to have the discharged from the force. Two of the police officers are already on paid leave pending a due process hearing.

Since last fall, Woodall has written up the officers and suspended Chief Jake Fowler.

All the officers said it was done over petty issues and done in retaliation.

Their attorney, Jeff McCurdy declined to comment on the reasons the mayor gave for the dismissals. He said they plan to file for a due process hearing.

The officers have the option of an open or closed hearing before the council. McCurdy said he wants it open to the public.
