DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
Investigators in Decatur made a meth lab bust at a motel.
Officers received several calls about drug activity at the Motel 6 on 6th avenue on Friday.
Investigators smelled a strong chemical odor coming from one of the rooms when they responded to the call.
Inside, they found several ingredients to manufacture meth. Officers arrested Gwendolyn Waddell and charged her with possession of marijuana, prescription drugs drug paraphernalia.
Investigators said Waddell was previously arrested in the same room less than a day before and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of prescription drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He bond on those charges was revoked and she is being held in the city jail.
While at the scene, officers saw Joey Smith running from the same room where the meth lab was located. Smith was on State Work Release and drove himself to Motel 6 in a Department of Corrections Work Release passenger van.
Smith was released to DOC Work Release without charges.
