HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Police shut down North and Southbound lanes of Memorial Parkway at Hobbs Road for a wreck Tuesday morning.
Huntsville Police said Darren Sales had a diabetic reaction and crashed into a utility pole, taking out power lines and traffic lights. He then ran a red light and struck two other vehicles.
The power lines and traffic signals then fell on the vehicles involved in the accident. The truck also hit a third vehicle north of the intersection.
Two people were injured and transported to the hospital.
Motorists were directed through a detour around the area of Hobbs Road and Memorial Parkway while they cleared the scene. Traffic was backed up as commuters made their way to work.
Huntsville Utilities and the street department also responded to the intersection to repair damage to the power poll and clean up the debris in the road.
The road was reopened just before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.
