COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
A sailor on leave from the Navy was struck and killed by a tour bus early Monday morning.
Officials said the Anchor Tours bus hit 22-year-old Byron Seth Clark as he was walking on Highway 72 in Tuscumbia around 3 a.m.
The scene was cleared by 3:30 a.m.
The bus driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the two passengers were not injured. The driver had just made his first pickup at the office and was on his was to a second location.
According to his Facebook page, Clark grew up in Colbert County in the Tuscumbia area.
He graduated from Colbert Heights High School in 2008 and went on to study at the Alabama Fire College and Northwest Shoals Community College.
Officials said Clark was in the Navy. He was also a volunteer with Colbert Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
Tuscumbia Police and State Troopers are investigating the accident.
At this point in the investigation there are still a number of questions left unanswered, including where Clark was going and what he was doing.
All police have said is that he's believed to have walked from his parent's home on Woodmont Drive.
Anchor Trailways released this statement:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased who was involved in the accident with our bus on Monday morning in Tuscumbia, Alabama. We are carrying out a full investigation into the accident, as well as assisting the police and other authorities in any way that we can."
The bus driver's name and driving record have not been released.
No charges have been filed at this time.
The family has made the funeral arrangements for Seth Clark.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Colbert Memorial in Tuscumbia.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Colbert Memorial Chapel.
It will be a full military service.
