BIRMINGHAM, AL (AP) -
Hibbett Sports Inc. is moving its distribution center from Birmingham to Alabaster in a $25 million project.
The Birmingham News reports (http://bit.ly/OKx61Y ) the relocation will double the size of the distribution operations for the sporting goods chain. The company hopes to grow from roughly 840 stories to as many at 1,500 stores.
The company last week closed on the site of what will become its new 59-acre distribution center at Shelby West Corporate Park. The company's chief executive, Jeff Rosenthal, said the firm has outgrown its current site. He said that proximity to the home office was important when choosing a new site.
The distribution center employs about 150 people. Hibbett said the company plans to add jobs at the new facility.
