A father and son in Madison have been arrested in connection with a child pornography case stemming from an incident at Discovery Middle School.

The Madison County Jail website indicated both father and son have bonded out of jail.

Madison Police said Discovery Middle School's Band Director John Nash was arrested for failing to report his 24-year-old son John "Bradley" Nash - a volunteer with the band – was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student.

School officials at Discovery Middle School reported a possible inappropriate relationship with the student and Bradley to authorities on June 28. Officials said Bradley's father was also notified of the relationship prior to the arrest, but failed to report the incident to authorities under the strict Alabama mandatory reporting law.

A search warrant obtained by Madison Police led to the search of Bradley's computer, ultimately revealing "obscene images" of minors. Bradley was arrested Tuesday and placed in the Madison City Jail on a $2,500 bond. John Nash was arrested Thursday and placed in jail on a $500 bond.

A Madison parent who also has a 15-year-old daughter said Bradley's father should have reported the entire incident sooner.

"I understand that it was his son so maybe he felt torn about reporting his son or turning his son in, but I also feel like the 15-year-old parents have some responsibility," said Clarissa Harrold.

Madison City Schools superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler issued the following statement regarding the arrests:

"This is still an ongoing police investigation. We have placed Mr. Nash on administrative leave without pay and are working to resolve who will take over for the band's summer rehearsal," Dr. Fowler said.

School officials said Nash was remain on administrative leave for as long as the investigation continues.
