HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Hundreds of thousands of computers will lose internet service Monday if users don't act fast.
The outage stems from malware that infected computers globally a year ago. The FBI has provided a website that will tell you if you have the harmful malware and how to react.
However, officials fear if people haven't taken the precautions already, they're not going to do it before Monday's deadline.
Charles Boley with Gigaparts said finding out if you are infected is crucial, but also very easy. There are several free sites out there that will let you know. The best one is dcwg.org. Not only will it tell you about the problem, but will also try to fix it.
Boley said other organizations are also trying to alert computer users. Google and Facebook are two of those sites.
The FBI estimates as many as 100,000 computers in the United States are infected with the malware. There is still time to get rid of it.
