MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
Even with the 4th of July over, many still have leftover fireworks that are illegal to set off in city limits.
Madison Police patrolled neighborhoods Wednesday to make sure everyone followed the rules.
Extra attention is being paid to fireworks because of increased fire threats this summer.
Police said just because the holiday is over doesn't mean people will stop using fireworks.
"If anybody sees it, if your neighbor's out shooting fireworks, just give us a call and we'll come over and speak with them and ask them not to do it," said Lt. Steve Wilkerson with the Madison Police Department.
Police said they usually warn people the first time, but if they catch someone multiple times, they may fine them, confiscate the fireworks or arrest them.
