HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville Police arrested six intoxicated drivers during an overnight checkpoint Tuesday.
Officials set up the checkpoint on Moores Mill Road north of Highway 72. Officers made seven arrests, six for DUIs and one for another charger. They said they issued numerous other citations as well.
Officers expect to have multiple checkpoints running Independence weekend as well as a number in the upcoming future.
Officials said they do not want people drinking and driving.
When stopped, officers said they ask for a current driver's license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration. They'll also be checking for seatbelt violations.
HPD have conducted several checkpoints throughout the past several weeks thanks to a grant the department received.
Officers have a number of checkpoints planned across the valley in the upcoming weeks.
