GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Officials at Lake Guntersville State Park are hoping for a large turnout to use their facilities more than a year after it sustained massive damage from last year's tornado outbreak.

For Dorothy Faulkner, it's been two years since she and her husband has been back to the park.

Repairing the damage at the park has been a top priority in particular "D" section of the campground.

"We're making it a full hookup area. When we do that we'll have roughly 217 campsites," said Nick Guinn, acting Assistant Park Manager.

This past weekend's severe weather knocked down more trees and knocked down all four walls to a bath house in the campground and five cabins remain under construction.

Much is complete including the golf course, pro shop, the lodge, and chalets; which customers are thrilled to visit.

"I think it's going to be better because they've had the opportunity to make improvements, upgrade a lot of their facilities," said Faulkner.

Park officials estimate the park is now 75 percent back to normal and official urge everyone to come out and celebrate the 4th of July.
