GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The National Weather Service said a microburst destroyed the Claysville Snack Bar off Highway 431.
With virtually no damage away from the property, owners of the Snack Bar said they are shocked at the level of devastation
When storms came through Sunday evening, the Claysville Snack Bar took a direct hit. Walls collapsed, windows on the ground, the building a total loss.
The popular eatery opened in 1968 and has been a fixture of the community for more than 40 years.
With virtually little damage to structures nearby, National Weather Service officials went to the Snack Bar Monday morning to try to gauge what weather event destroyed the structure.
The owner said you see such things happen to other people, and you feel sorry for them, but now it's hit home, and it's reality.
And questions remain for the future of the restaurant, with its famous hamburgers and onion rings, if they will rebuild.
"We hope. You know, we'll just have to see how it goes. Like I said, just take it one day at a time," said Shirley Eaves, owner of the Claysville Snack Bar.
She said they must now hear from the building owner to determine if they plan to rebuild.
