DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
The case against three 17-year-old Decatur High School students will go to a grand jury.
Jameson Staten, Steve King, Jr. and Lorin Wilson are accused of fatally shooting Houston Glenn Blackwood. Authorities found his body at his home on Chestnut Street in Decatur.
The teens were charged with capital murder and will be tried as adults. A preliminary hearing was held for the three suspects Monday in Decatur.
Decatur Police said they believe Wilson pulled the trigger and all three went to Blackwood's apartment to rob him of money and drugs.
Attorneys for Staten and King filed a motion to have charges for their clients dropped to at least felony murder, which means they would be eligible for a bond.
Judge Brent Craig will decide on a motion filed by defense attorneys to get transcripts of the police statement given to a witness. Police said a woman was in the car the when the three suspects drove to Blackwood's apartment. They said she sat outside in the car when the shooting happened.
The judge's ruling on the motions could come after the grand jury considers the case late next month.
