HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
When the weather gets into the triple digits, one of the worst things that can happen is your air conditioner breaking. That happened to Denny Langston early Friday morning.
"There were some serious sounds coming from the air vents in the middle of the night that wasn't a good thing and it was blowing warm air," Langston said. "I was just dreading the heat that was going to pour on later."
Langston became one of the many calls that came into Joe East Heating and Air Conditioning in Huntsville.
Estimating Engineer Mike Vanek says repair jobs can go from a couple hundred dollars to a couple thousand quickly, but there are things you can do to keep your air conditioning running.
"Just make sure your filters are changed," Vanek said. "Make sure that your outdoor coil doesn't have a lot of debris in it. Might be a good idea to spray that coil down and clean that off so you have good transfer."
Vanek said one thing you can use to clean your foil is foaming tire cleaner. Air conditioner technicians suggest you get your unit looked at in the spring and in the fall and make sure your motor runs well. They say if you check your temperature difference it should be between 20-22 degrees.
If the air does go out in your home, the first thing you may think to do is close your windows and doors, technicians say to open them so that you can get air in. Closing the windows and doors keeps the hot air inside.
