LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The scorching temperatures are making it dangerous for firefighters across the Valley.

Firefighters are asking people to use extreme caution when burning outside or not to burn at all.

Several Lauderdale County volunteer fire departments were called out to a brush fire along County Road 69 Thursday afternoon.

In addition to the 100 degree heat, the dry, windy conditions made it difficult for fire crews to battle the flames.

Nearly 30 acres of Treasure Forest was destroyed.

"The wind was up, so it spread rapidly through the dry foliage right here. We called for assistance. We got good mutual aid in the county. All the surrounding departments did come. We needed man power, fire trucks, and water," said David Charles, Assistant Chief at Center Star Volunteer Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Fire officials suspect it could have started from something as small as a cigarette butt.
