MOUTLON, AL (WAFF) -
A Moulton man was arrested on domestic violence charges after investigators said he severely beat his elderly mother.
Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said 53-year-old James Steven Proctor beat his 85-year-old mother,Geneva Proctor, so badly that she suffered bleeding on the brain.
Because the case is under investigation, investigators are not releasing the reported circumstances surrounding the beating. Lawrence County officials are working closely with DHR on the investigation.
Proctor's mother was flown to Huntsville Hospital to be treated for her injuries. In a photo released by the victim's family, bruises and abrasions are visible on her face and neck.
Proctor was charged with second degree domestic violence (assault), which is a class C felony. He was booked into the Lawrence County Jail without bond.
