After being swept in a five-game series by the Mobile BayBears down at Hank Aaron Stadium two weeks ago, the Huntsville Stars beat the first half Southern League South champs by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday night at Joe Davis Stadium. Falling behind 2-0 in the fourth inning, Huntsville put together four unanswered runs over the rest of the game to win the series opener against Mobile. First baseman Hunter Morris went 2-for-4 with a two-run homerun in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the seventh inning. That was plenty of offense for Stars starting pitcher Josh Stinson, who improved to 8-4 on the year after giving up two runs on five hits through six innings. After Huntsville got 1.2 inning of combined scoreless relief from RHP Darren Byrd and LHP Mitch Stetter, Jesus Sanchez shut down the Mobile bats for a four-out save, his 10th of the season.
Huntsville will continue a five-game series with the Mobile with game two on Wednesday. The Stars will send RHP Evan Anundsen (4-3, 3.61
ERA) to the mound to square off against BayBears RHP Chase Anderson (2-1, 2.47 ERA). First pitch is at 6:43 PM.
