RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Russellville police are searching for an attempted robbery suspect.

Officials said it started as an attempted robbery at a McDonalds.

Employees said they called police after the man reached behind the counter to try and rob them. Police said Neil Larkins car jacked two people in the parking lot before taking off.

Police caught up with him, but he led officers on a chase. Police chased him down Highway 24 towards Lawrence County to Highway 83. Officials said speeds reached upwards of 100 miles per hour.

Larkins then crashed on a gravel road and took off on foot.

"It's a safety issue right now because we already know he took a vehicle by force," said Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett. "He had been in jail previously. I think the same day he got out was that day. We don't know what state of mind he is in; we don't know what extremes he will got to, so at this time its very important that we get him back in custody."

He was last seen in Colbert County fleeing on foot.
