MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Tropical
Storm Debby is bringing an increased awareness to travel insurance.
Robert
McWhorter, president of Elite Travel in Decatur said he highly recommends travel
protection which can reimburse you if flight or hotel reservations are canceled
due to bad weather.
McWhorter
said if you have already booked your trip and didn't take out travel insurance,
than it is too late.
"‘If you
cancel prior to meeting the terms of your insurance you have no coverage whatsoever,
so my advice is sit still, stay in touch with your agent, and wait," said
McWhorter. "Don't jump the gun. Wait once it is clear that you cannot travel
then you are covered. Call your agent. Call your insurance company they will
tell you yes or no."
McWhorter
said travel insurance is so important that customers who chose not to take it
must sign a waiver.
