WATERLOO, AL (WAFF) -

Concerned residents in Lauderdale County went before the commission to address a dangerous stretch of road.

Residents pleaded with County Commission to repair Paradise Drive in Waterloo.

This is not the first time the issue has been brought forth. Residents have been trying for years to get the commission to overrule a resolution set in 1981 which does not make the county responsible for the road's maintenance.

Neighbors said the steep inclines and loose gravel make the road unsafe for drivers. One man died less than a month ago on the road.

Residents said they've been asking the commission to throw out the resolution since 2005. They said not only is the road dangerous, but it is not passable for cars without four-wheel drive and there are no guard rails.

The last time the resolution was brought forward, the commission voted it down.

Residents hope Monday's meeting will be enough to sway some of the commissioners' minds. They said if the road was maintained like it should have been, the most recent fatal accident could have been avoided.

"It illustrates a point we've been trying to make that there's going to be a loss of life if they don't take action and by them not taking any action that's exactly what took place," said Hank Thomas. "All problems are caused by two words, too late to recognize a problem or too late to take action and they're too late in both instances."
