HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The Madison County Veterans Memorial Foundation discussed the future for the memorial during a press briefing at the Tut Fann Veterans Home in Huntsville Saturday.
The memorial was unveiled on Veterans Day in 2011. The foundation plans to have four new items ready for this year's Veterans Day. They are building an educational walk, erecting a World War I statue, adding an eternal flame, and constructing a time capsule.
The time capsule will be filled with memorabilia from local veterans.
"We will be collecting artifacts starting in August and then go through September. And then will go ahead and seal it up in October, and then we will put it in the ground in November right around Veterans Day," said time capsule coordinator, John Perry.
The Madison County Veterans Memorial Foundation relies on donations for their projects. For example: people can buy an engraved brick for $100 to be placed at the memorial. Of that money, $70 will go directly to the memorial funding.
