HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
City Councilman Will Culver, a loyal public servant for the past 26 years, announced his second term re-election Thursday.
Culver serves the 5th district of Alabama, covering much of North and West Huntsville where several new developments are currently taking place. He said his decision to run for re-election was in part, because there are still several things that need to be done.
As one of the first officers to help launch the D.A.R.E. Program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officers) in Alabama, Culver has worked as a police officer, and most recently a Chief Magistrate until his 2008 election to the city council.
The end-of-summer election will be held August 28th, and so far no other candidate has announced a run for his seat.
When asked about a future run for Congress, Culver said, "Public service is all I've ever done and all I desire to do."
