MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
It's been almost one month since 25 cars in Madison were found with broken windows and belongings inside missing. One of those cars belonged to Tracey Burhop.
"A neighbor rang the doorbell and said they thought that we had been robbed," Burhop said. "We came outside and found several of our car doors open. Someone had gone through the glove compartments of my husband's car, the radio was missing."
A majority of the break-ins happened on Freedom Way and Joe Phillips Road.
The rash of recent criminal activity has Madison Police taking action. On June 30, they are holding a crime prevention meeting to educate residents on how to keep crimes like this from happening again.
"One of the things that we are going to be doing is talking about how people can take those protective steps to prevent car break-ins and home burglaries and just being the victims of crimes in general," said Madison officer Lt. John Stringer.
Stringer said some of the ways you can keep from becoming a victim is with common sense.
"Lock your doors, remove your valuables from plain sight, remove the temptation from the bad guys. If you see something, hear something go ahead and get up and call the police," said Stringer.
The presentation will be held at Madison City Complex at 100 Hughes Road on Saturday, June 30 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Madison Police said if you are interested in getting a crime prevention meeting in your area to contact your local police department.
