HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - An organization held an event aimed to help fathers strengthen bonds with their children.
The Huntsville Housing Authority's first Father's Day Festival featured games and activities for families Saturday. Recently released U.S. Census Bureau statistics show that one-in-three American children live in homes without their biological father. In public housing, that rate jumps to more than 50 percent.
"This is not going to be a one day event for us. We are planning to have other initiatives through the year to strengthen bonds between fathers and their children," said HHA Community Relations Director Wendy Reeves.
At the event, fathers gained access to community resources such as legal services, job training education information, and health screenings.
