HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Redstone Arsenal's Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) recently welcomed a new leader with the retirement of Maj. Gen. James Rogers.
The man now at the reigns, Maj. Gen. Lynn Collyar, is familiar with his new post. Collyar called Huntsville his hometown. He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1975.
"It is a great place. It is great to be back in Huntsville," said Collyar.
Collyar commented on the growth in the area, and said he's watched things sprout up over his annual visits to the Valley. His mother and sister still live in the area.
"When I left, Madison was primarily cotton fields. So, dramatic change there, but the partnership with the arsenal and the community is stronger than it has ever been," he said.
Collyar said he is excited to be part of a community that strongly supports the Armed Forces. He looks forward to replanting his roots here with his wife Col. Sarah Green.
"Those of us in the military, you don't realize what you have good until often times you leave and go somewhere else," Collyar said, "There is not a community that I know of in the United States that provides better support and partnership than the greater Huntsville community does to Redstone Arsenal."
