HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville's first murder victim of the year will be laid to rest Saturday at Indian Creek Church.
Someone shot Delois Lightford in her house last Friday. The killer remains on the loose.
Authorities said this is still a very active search, but they won't say whether or not they have any people of interest.
Lightford moved back to Huntsville from California a week before her death. A delivery service tried to drop off her black Mercedes Friday morning, but she didn't answer.
A neighbor went to go check on her and found her face down in her back bedroom. Her family said she had two gunshot wounds to the back.
Huntsville investigators collected evidence for more than eight hours. They also interviewed neighbors and family members.
The victim's family sought help from the public to help solve the case.
"I'm pleading please," said Lightford's son Cardell Lightford. "Please give HPD a call. If you know something and you're scared. Send a text message to somebody. Send it through a friend. Do something. There's too much technology out here where we could get justice."
Police would not say whether or not they've recovered a murder weapon.
